Corporations call fundraising “increasing market share.” Non-profits call it creating sustainability.

Keeping a development professional longer than the average 18 months is important to a successful run at growing community and raising money. The Founder of SOAR stood in the shoes of a development professional for a corporation and also a non-profit for many years. Corporations call fundraising “increasing market share.” Non-profits call it creating sustainability.

UNTIL SOAR developed there was stress, loss of sleep, and she was driven to work long hours UNTIL a successful system was put into place. She discovered following four simple steps created results and kept her focused. Other people in the organizations where she worked were not worrying about how the money was raised. They just wanted the results.

The development professional – SOAR’s founder – was in a very unhealthy situation UNTIL the successful system (SOAR) created astounding results – WINNING results – quickly and efficiently within four months. STRESS & LOSS OF SLEEP ended immediately and the role of the development professional became a job of managing relationships instead of begging for money. There were people helping to raise money! Dollars continued to increase as community began to GROW.

The truth is, people liked the process so much it increased the market share 126% in four months. SOAR’s program was published and a membership program built. Now, development professionals come to SOAR for support. They pay $34 a month for the privilege of having a fundraising professional in their corner.

Support with SOAR membership looks like this (three highlights):

  • Group contact with other fundraising professionals to get ideas AND see what really works prior to investing too much time and energy
  • Trainings and meetings for development professionals are organized – you just show up
  • SOAR is available for your call – you can share what you’ve having trouble with and SOAR offers advice on the best steps to proceed

The Best Time to Raise Money Is…

You’ve heard a watched pot never boils. Let’s just say you’re fundraising and pushing to fill the pot. You’re watching, watching, watching and not seeing the huge increases you were hoping for.

The best time to raise money is when you’re not needing to raise money! Watching the pot and expecting it to grow at a specific time is just not reasonable. Raising money is truly a full time activity. For example: You host an annual fundraiser and expect to raise all of the money you need. When this does work it’s because the organization is putting together activities leading up to the event. They work on the program all year long. Their fundraising plan is strategic.

The beginning of a fundraising plan:

  • How much money by when?
  • Methods for raising money – past, present and future
  • Timeline for each method
  • Participants – past, present and future
  • Resources (current + what’s needed)
  • Tracking mechanism
  • Maintaining focus of your program with your team

Focus more on the steps involved and not a specific event. You will get further faster. The pot will simmer, shake, and create a rolling boil. Before you know it the results you want will be happening because you’re not so focused on the end result.

The Appeal For Giving Comes First

Fundraisers talk about appeals all the time when raising money. It’s the appeal, or ask for a gift! Is now the right time to ask? It certainly is if you’ve already prepared and educated people about your organization. If not…stay away from the ask! Instead, think about the future and how you raise the appeal or desire in others through your actions.

We’re sitting on top of a gold mine for 2018. SOAR is in Colorado where the Gold Rush happened in the middle 1800’s. Gold mining continues with the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine, which is close to where we live. They are the largest employer in the area. If gold mining goes away in this county so do a lot people’s dreams. The same is true with your fundraising. No dollars – no dreams!

Raising the appeal for giving is when the people you ask for money – GIVE IT!

The appeal in our lives is that we always have the opportunity to sit back and let the chips fall where they may. “We’ve done all we can do” is often our excuse. The last five days of 2017 are no exception. People say: We’re done for the year; What we do now is not going to make a difference on the bottom line. Is this really true!? NO!

Actually, now is the most-important time to be diligent. You have five days to impact your future financial success for 2017. But, more importantly, this rolls into what happens for 2018 as well. You know THIS to be true.

Raising the appeal within others to give a gift to you is extremely valuable. Lots of people do their annual giving through campaigns set up nationally now. The list is online. They can donate from the comfort of their home and no one is “asking” again and again for a gift.

This statement is now common, “I now give to two organizations each year and I’ve already given.”

Now, more than ever, relationships matter if you want to be one of two organizations a person is giving to. SOAR develops relationships. We help organizations become THE “connector” in their community. People CHOOSE to donate to the organizations we are involved with because the organizations are making a difference for others and not just asking for money!

SOAR works with a handful of organizations each year and we have a few openings for 2018 available in our Year-long Development Program, which is currently discounted through December 31, 2017. Learn more here!

Timely Investments for Raising Money

Timely Investments:

  • 7 to 12 months before fundraiser
  • 6 to 1 month before fundraiser
  • 1 month to the day of fundraiser

History proves a professional fundraiser raises, on average, 41% more money for an organization, when a successful fundraising system is put into place. It means, if you raised $50,000 last year you’re going to raise $70,500 this year.

The simple formula is – take the dollar amount you raised last year and multiply by .41 and then, add the number you get to your original number. For example: You raised $90,000 last year. $90,000 times .41 is $36,900. Add $90,000 and $36,900 together and you get the magic number of $126,900.

There are systems out there, no doubt, which will encourage you to do things outside your comfort zone. How about sticking to what’s natural?

SOAR’s system has proven to increase dollars raised by 126% within 4 months and 371% within 16 months by highlighting people’s gifts. This means participating organizations must be diligent and open-minded about following a system and sharing the things they’re good at with others.

Timeline prior to a fundraising event:

  • 7 to 12 months before fundraiser – This is when you are spreading the word about your organization because you’re hosting networking events. HOW you do this is important.
  • 6 to 1 month before fundraiser – This is when you change to every other month for networking events, and spend time with a core group of people who are instrumental in achieving your success.
  • 1 month to the day of fundraiser – This is the month when you are looking past the fundraiser and what happens afterwards.

SOAR works with corporations and non-profits to put together Collaborative Networking Events.

SOAR is…here!

Timely investments are HOW you spend your time. The value of follow up…PRICELESS

high five2000x1200ishGayle Gross is the founder of SOAR with Network Fundraising. Her personal mission is to share intellectual knowledge for raising money. Why? She says, “It can be so simple and when people are successful in reaching goals, like raising money, they are happier. This means they are usually kinder, which makes the world a better place to be. I want to be among people who are happy! It’s that simple and most people want to have more money. It’s something I’m good at doing. SOAR with Network Fundraising improves the ability for people to be successful at reaching their goal.”

Successful Fundraisers Do THIS Three Times a Day

TALK, talk, talk! Yes, think of the many opportunities you are presented with everyday. What if you talked to three new people about the work you do? You’ve seen how a network grows. You tell three people and they tell three people, and so on, and so on.

As an added bonus – make a name tag part of your business attire. There’s a simple reason. People often experience stress when they do not hear a person’s name correctly, or if they hear the name they may soon forget it. A name tag offers a visual confirmation, which adds a level of trust. It allows a person to refresh their memory and if you haven’t seen someone for a while, it gives them the opportunity to remember you first! It’s a great way to give back to others if you think about it from their perspective.

Outside the norm “opportunities” to share:

  • Sporting events
  • School activities
  • Grocery line
  • Park and recreation areas
  • Laundromat
  • Neighborhood activities
  • Visits to the drycleaner, dentist, hairstylist, doctor, post office, favorite restaurant

If you share with one person every business day you are sharing with 260 people each year. Multiply that by 3. That’s 780 times per year. Chances are you are presenting your mission to more than one person at any given time. Just imagine if one day each month you share with 30 people. That’s 360 people per year. Then, what if you just devote two days every week to telling three people. This is much more realistic.

Telling three people two times each week is 3 x 2 = 6

6 times/week x 52 weeks = 312 times per year

So, you have 312 plus the 360 people learning about you in group sessions (30 x 12 = 360 as mentioned in the above paragraph)

312 + 360 = 672 people

SOAR tells organizations how to put a system in place to share their message and reach 360 people. Certainly, you can purchase the guide for $8.99, read how to make it happen, and then implement it. Here’s the Amazon link.

OR – you can go with more personal guidance for $374. There are three levels SOAR offers. Each level includes an audit of fundraising systems. This is done on the phone after SOAR explores answers you provide on a questionnaire. All of the levels also include the SOAR with Network Fundraising guide and accompanying webinars to completely describe a program known to increase fundraising 371% in 16 months.

SOAR’s highest level offers an opportunity to have “feet on the ground” in your community. This is a year-long development program, which includes all of the resources and support SOAR offers to ensure your success.

Building Bridges for Fundraising

Education is a matter of building bridges. Tell me, how are you educating people about your organization? Wouldn’t it be great to build bridges, which lead to paving the road for financial success? It can happen. And, you know your organization better than anyone else. Teach people what you know. Then, connect them with your mission and bridge the gap.

When you think back to your days in school you may not remember the techniques your teachers used. Personally, I don’t. The thing I do remember is this, and I paraphrase, “Knowledge is not needing to know everything, it’s knowing where to look to find the things you need.”

Google found the following steps on how to teach others. I’ve added the definitions:

  1. Exposure – Share your message with others by adding it into friendly conversation
  2. Application – Offer opportunities
  3. Feedback – Accept what people say and see things from their perspective. Their feedback allows for #4
  4. Correction – Respect your program and appreciate the need for adjustments/course corrections to make it better
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until…
  6. Mastery!

Upon reaching mastery you have built a bridge with the people you have shared your program with or exposed it to. They are now involved as a builder. You’ve accepted their participation level and now, it is time to respect and thank them. In the end the program will SOAR because it is built in. Can you see how BOLDLY you can stand out above the rest? Have fun teaching and bridging the gap.

WHY Network Fundraising?

Why not? The sky is the limit.

You are a fundraiser. Do you use your time effectively? Have you ever done the math?

  • What is the fundraising goal for your organization?
  • What do you earn per hour as an income? $35,000 per year = $17/hour
  • How do you fund raise and how much time does each activity require? Grant writing, hosting events, other
  • How much money are you currently raising per activity?

Sample fundraiser’s scenario: Mary makes $40,000 per year and she does three events per year. One is a golf tournament, which raises $5,000; One is a silent auction and dinner, which raises $12,000 per year; And the last event is a film festival, which raises $20,000. She has nearly covered her salary. Has she made any money for the organization? We can look deeper into the marketing efforts and say there has been an increase in revenue because of exposure. If the fundraising goal was to cover her income I’d say, “Yes, she got the job done when you take into consideration the advertising and potential new business.” Will her boss think she got it done? Depends on the fundraising goal.

Fundraising becomes much easier and more cost-effective when you build networks. It is not challenging to do. It takes some time in conditioning your organization to understand the benefit, which gets you out from behind the desk. Success does not happen overnight but given the right permissions it can happen within six months.
